The Rise of the Wedgie

Pre-spring, first spring, spring of deception – whatever you prefer to call it, we’ve just had the warmest February on record. And let’s be honest, the sun was pretty welcome. While we all know there’s probably more rain to come, the recent conditions have at least got us excited for the year ahead.

If you’re dreaming of swimming pools, sunbathing and beach days you may already be searching out a new summer wardrobe as well. Along with strappy dresses and sandals, swimwear is a seasonal staple and this year there are some pretty hot trends on the horizon. Including the eye-watering wedgie bikini. Yes, wedgies are literally on the rise in 2019.

Whether you choose to go full-on thong or not, if you want to feel more comfortable in the sun this year, now is the time to work on your shape as well as your style. After all summer bodies are made in winter. Well, pre-spring anyway.

Over what was our chilly season, Instagram has been filled with snaps of celebrities looking cheeky in barely-there bikini bottoms. The wedgies do wonders for minimising tan lines and lengthening legs, but they aren’t for everyone. As ever, thankfully the high street looks set to embrace more than one catwalk concept. So what else can we expect this swimwear season?

Firstly, there’s ruffles. From layered ones on high waist bikini bottoms to small, floaty and flirty ones on tops, ruffles are ready to add some beautiful detail this year. Next, surprisingly, is velvet. Given it has already made a comeback in our clothes, this seems to be the next step for velvet with special pool and sea-appropriate versions all set to trend.

Colour-wise, pastels are popular along with yellow. In particular yellow can helpfully suit a variety of skin tones and let you look good with or without a tan (we are in the UK after all!). If you fancy going a bit bolder then polka dots, stripes and leopard print are waiting.

Finally, wherever you go, you’re unlikely to be far away from the high-waist, high-bottom look. Most options are likely to be thong-brief hybrids, but will still leave your legs looking longer and your white patches smaller. The drawback is they may also leave you feeling the need to be braver.

Whatever style of swimwear you go for this summer, the reality is it may show more skin that you are comfortable with. Rather than spend the season hiding away hot and missing out, there is a simple treatment which could give you the confidence you need to step out in style.

For anyone struggling with extra inches, 3D Lipo really can make all the difference. It’s perfect if you would like to lose unwanted thigh, upper arm, under bum or bra fat ready for bikini season. Safe and effective, the treatment uses a very cold temperature to freeze and destroy fat cells so they can be naturally disposed of by the body - no needles required!
